As part of the state’s 5-day lockdown, there is a roadblock on IOD just south of Military Road where it was last April. Today there were police checking cars with a handful of traffic management crew at the entrance and exit of the block. Whether SES and army are called in like last year is unknown at this stage. At a DFES briefing this morning, Greg Mair, the Deputy Incident Controller for the bushfires east of Lancelin, confirmed that Lancelin was never closed to travellers over the last week or so. Four days ago on this page, DFES commented on more than one post that Lancelin WAS closed to incoming travellers but people could depart Lancelin. Shire of Gingin staff are proposing to bulldoze 6,400 square meters of coastal vegetation and extend Beacon Road through to the Lead Lights for the sole use of large sand mining trucks. A few months ago the Shire committed to re-opening access to Edwards Island and today it happened. As you can see from this aerial shot, the old track remains closed but a new track has been formed allowing vehicles to get to the point. At present though there is a bit of weed on the beach so it might be prudent to wait until that clears before heading out there…. Read More
